若きPAUL WELLERの熱烈なラヴ・アクションによって、当時のパッとしなさとは裏腹にのちにネオ・モッズのカリスマ的存在となった60'Sモッド・ビート・ソウル・レジェンドであり、解体後には時流を捉えたアングラ・サイケの雄MIGHTY BABYへと変化していった埋もれたB級ビーター「THE ACTION」のキャリア・アンソロジー決定盤！
63年にロンドン北西部ケンティッシュ・タウンでリード・ヴォーカルのREG KINGとリード・ギターのALAN 'BAM' KINGを中心にBOYSとして結成、勃興するモッド・シーンに呼応する形でソウル・ミュージックを演奏し、65年になってギタリストPETER WATSONの加入を期にTHE ACTIONと改名、65年の10月にBEATLESのプロデューサーGEORGE MARTINがEMIを去った後に立ち上げた自身の会社AIR PRODUCTIONSが初めてサインしたバンドとなった彼らは、65年から67年にかけてGEORGE MARTINのプロデュースでPARLOPHONEから5枚のシングルをリリース。リリースされることは無かったアルバム用のデモ録音も残しています。
ほとんどが初CD化となるオリジナル・シングル・ミックスに、"JUST ONCE IN MY LIFE"の未発表モノ・ミックスや、さらに貴重なBBCセッション5曲を加えたDISC 1、
近年発見されたマルチ・トラックからミックスされたABBEY ROAD STUDIOSでの新規ステレオ・ミックスに、リハーサル・テープ等に残されたオルタネイト・テイクやバッキング・トラックといった未発表アウトテイクを収録したDISC 2、
のちに彼等にとっての『OGDEN'S NUT GONE FLAKE』ではないかとすら評価される67-68年の伝説的デモ録音集『ROLLED GOLD』を中心に、85年に発掘リリースされた REG KING抜きによるほぼMIGHTY BABYな68年録音の5曲入りEP『ACTION SPEAK LOUDER THAN...』、さらに"IN MY DREAMS"のデモ・ヴァージョンを収録したDISC 3、
「ACTION EXTRAS」として、前身バンドBOYSのシングル音源3曲に、EMIデビュー6か月前の65年5月に残されたDECCAのオーディション・アセテートからの3曲、ライヴ音源2曲にBBCセッション4曲、そして80年代にEDSELからリイシューされた際の"EDSEL MIX"音源までをコンパイルしたDISC 4、
